Family and Court Navigation

NJCA plans to develop peer support and navigation services for individuals facing complicated legal, social service, healthcare, employment, housing, and family systems.

Navigators and trained peer supporters can help individuals:

• Identify resources
• Organize information
• Understand available options
• Prepare for appointments
• Connect with community services
• Have someone beside them during an overwhelming time

Access to justice should not depend entirely on a person’s financial resources or ability to understand a complicated legal system.

As resources and funding allow, NJCA hopes to provide or facilitate access to legal consultations, legal representation, mediation, court navigation, court accompaniment, educational resources, and referrals to qualified attorneys.

NJCA also seeks to develop court observation and support programs that promote transparency, professionalism, safety, and trauma informed practices within the justice system.
