NJCA is committed to promoting the safety, dignity, autonomy, accessibility, and rights of older adults and people with physical, intellectual, developmental, cognitive, sensory, and other disabilities.
Older adults and people with disabilities may face additional barriers to safety, independence, communication, reporting abuse, accessing services, and being heard.
Recognizing abuse
Abuse can take many forms, including the misuse of a person’s dependence on others for housing, transportation, communication, healthcare, finances, or daily living needs.
Abuse may include:
- Physical or emotional abuse
- Neglect
- Financial exploitation
- Coercion
- Stalking
- Intimidation
- Isolation
- Discrimination
- Caregiver abuse
What we seek to develop
Status: PlannedNJCA seeks to develop advocacy, navigation, education, peer and community support, professional partnerships, and connections to appropriate protective, legal, healthcare, mental health, housing, and social services.
Our systems work will also examine barriers experienced by older adults and people with disabilities and advocate for accessibility, informed decision making, personal autonomy, safety, dignity, and meaningful access to justice.
